The International Awareness & Involvement Committee and the Physical & Mental Health Committee will collaborate to provide information to senior citizens at Arbor Terrace, on staying healthy during the holiday season.
The International Awareness & Involvement Committee will provide HIV/AIDS information focusing on educating seniors about being proactive and introducing them to safe and healthy ways to navigate sexually through the holidays, from November through the first part of January, during the time when risky sexual behavior can lead to increases in contracting HIV/AIDS as well as STDS.
The holiday season can have negative physical and mental effects, senior citizens may engage in unhealthy behaviors (e.g., overeating, substance use) to cope with loneliness and depression. They may also be unprepared for discussing these negative effects with their doctor. The goal of the Physical & Mental Health Committee is to educate senior citizens on healthy ways to cope during the holidays and beyond. Senior citizens will receive information on nutrition and exercise, successful aging (including effective communication with physicians), depression and stress, and HIV/AIDS.
